Why is post-operative home assistance so important?

Because recovery is smoother when the details are taken care of.

After surgery, families often find themselves juggling work, kids, and travel while also worrying about a loved one’s recovery at home. That’s where post-operative concierge services step in, providing practical, non-medical help that keeps the household running and the patient comfortable. For adult children of seniors, having trusted support nearby is the difference between constant worry and peace of mind.

What does post-operative home assistance include?

Small comforts and practical tasks that add up to a safer, smoother recovery.

Our post-operative home assistance in Des Moines and West Des Moines is designed to fill the gaps between medical care and daily living.

Examples include:

  • Meal preparation to ensure nutritious, easy-to-eat food is always ready

  • Changing linens and keeping the home clean for comfort and hygiene

  • Light mobility support around the house (non-medical)

  • Help with errands, grocery shopping, or picking up prescriptions

  • Coordinating household tasks so the family doesn’t have to step away from work or other responsibilities

How does this service help families?

By taking pressure off when families can’t be everywhere at once.

Adult children often want to be by their parent’s side but can’t always take extended time away from jobs, kids, or other commitments. Post-operative concierge services provide that trusted extra set of hands—so family members can focus on visiting and supporting emotionally instead of stressing about chores, meals, or safety hazards.

How can you prepare a home for recovery?

Think ahead about safety, comfort, and convenience.

Some simple steps before a loved one returns home include:

  • Clearing walkways and removing tripping hazards

  • Setting up a recovery space with extra pillows, blankets, and easy-to-reach items

  • Stocking the kitchen with ready-to-eat meals or prepping simple snacks

  • Checking that bathrooms and bedrooms are well-lit and easy to access

Real-life example

One client shared how something as simple as baking cookies for her mother after surgery helped brighten her recovery and gave her family comfort knowing she wasn’t alone. These small, thoughtful touches are what make concierge post-operative care so meaningful, not just for the patient, but for the entire family.

📍 Serving Des Moines and surrounding communities

It’s been a pleasure meeting with people all over the metro the last few months. I’ve learned so much about the many ways people are serving our aging population. This community has been incredibly welcoming. It’s been great to see familiar faces in many rooms I now enter.

Several amazing things have come out of these meetings. One exciting outcome is the opportunity become a Dementia Friendly Business in 2025.

Many have asked if our concierge services extend beyond seniors aging at home – and now, they do!

I’ve met with physical therapists, other business owners, and COOs who have a gap for their clients that Simply Golden Solutions can fill. Sometimes callers must be turned away because they don’t provide the service, and other times, someone they know personally is experiencing a challenge and no known person or business is able to close the gap.

As a result, I’m delighted to share that we’ve expanded our services beyond those aging at home.

Because Simply Golden Solutions provides services without a monthly minimum and is truly tailored to the needs of the individual, we are flexible enough to deliver premium concierge services for a broader array of individuals who may need a little extra help during a moment, or a season, in their life.

Starting this month, we are now serving:

  • Seniors aging at home – Helping maintain independence with tailored support

  • Post-operative patients – Bridging the gap during recovery when some tasks may be overwhelming or too challenging

  • People recovering from an acute condition – Helping to keep the wheels on the bus while recovery moves forward

  • Postpartum mothers and families – Enabling bonding and adjustment by handing off some daily living tasks

  • People who are grieving – Providing stability and continuity after family and/or friends return home

  • Families with a new diagnosis - Providing a reduction in mental load while adjusting to the new normal

I look forward to serving more folks in Central Iowa in ways that make a difference.

Enjoy this spring, and if you or someone you love could use extra support – whether for a moment, a season, or beyond – I’d love to help.

I'm Sherrie Nelson, an expert in reducing chaos and process simplification.

First, I spent more than a decade in non profit work specializing in adult education, particularly language acquisition.

Then, I spent more than a decade in corporate work walking into chaos, recognizing patterns, and developing and implementing systems and processes for simplification.

Now, I've channelled my skills into a concierge company catering to older adults who want to, or need to, hand-off some work to others as they continue to live life to the fullest in the home of their choosing. My passion for adult learning helps older adults learn something new, technology-related or otherwise, and build muscle memory around the skill. My love of historical documentation and memoirs allows me to capture a client's story in the way they want it told.

My concierge services are inspired by challenges faced while helping 92 year old Grandma Babs remain fully independent in her home three and a half hours away. While she orders groceries online, asks Alexa for the weather report, connects to a weekly YouTube yoga practice, drives to and from Arizona most years, and continues to travel internationally, each passing year Grandma Babs needs a little extra help. When I visit, I help troubleshoot technology, meal prep, and run errands. I may accompany her in driving to or from Arizona. I research hotels, airbnbs, and flights. I research vendors, products, or options she may need to support maintenance on or in her home.

I understand the difficulties faced when aging at home with minimal health issues. I also understand the challenges involved in not able to be present as often as I'd like to support my loved one in the process. Simply Golden Solutions is here to close that gap.
